Traditional Full Dentures

If you have lost all of your teeth, or require extraction of all remaining teeth, you may be a candidate for complete dentures. These restorations are likely what you picture when you think of dentures. A complete denture can replace the entire upper and lower dental arch. Our partner lab will create your prosthetic with a plastic base that matches the shade of your gums, and the synthetic teeth will have a natural appearance.

Traditional Partial Dentures

A partial will be recommended if you still have some remaining healthy teeth. A traditional partial denture is similar to a traditional full denture. However, it will only replace part of your dental arch and relies on hidden clasps that connect to your remaining healthy teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

We recommend implant-supported dentures for the most stable and realistic results possible. Dentures attach to implant posts that are surgically embedded in your jawbone. Dental implants will never allow your denture to slip out of place, and are the only restorative option that can prevent jaw atrophy following tooth loss. They can support full and partial dentures.

Our dentists will evaluate your oral and physical health to determine your candidacy for implant-supported dentures. If your jawbone has started to recede, you may require a bone graft or sinus lift before you can receive implants.

Prettau® Bridge

This full-arch restoration is made from state-of-the-art zirconia, which is incredibly durable and will not absorb stains or odors. It will attach to five or six implant posts, and your dentist will usually attach it on the same day as your implant surgery. Immediate dentures allow patients to enjoy the benefits of a complete smile right after dental implant surgery.

The Fountain of Youth Denture

The Fountain of Youth denture is a specially designed prosthetic that will fill in your lips and cheeks, giving you effects similar to a facelift. We can even attach this type of denture to dental implants.

Are Patients Who Choose Dentures
Happy with Their Results?

Before and After Photos

Patient before receiving traditional dentures in Staunton.

Before — Candy was missing all of the teeth on her upper arch, as well as several teeth on the lower arch. The tooth loss, along with jawbone atrophy, began to contribute to changes in the shape of the jaw and face, contributing to an older appearance.

Patient after undergoing denture treatment in Staunton.

After — Our dentists performed an extensive full smile makeover. The upper arch was treated with a Fountain of Youth upper denture. We also placed four implants to secure a partial lower denture in place. The end result was a complete and beautiful smile.

Candy’s Testimonial:

“This whole experience of receiving a beautiful smile has been a surreal, life-changing event for me. I no longer have poor self-esteem and suffer from reprisals from others. Since receiving my new smile, I feel like a new person. I now have self-esteem and confidence in my new smile and it shows. When at work or out for leisure, everyone notices my beautiful smile. It captures the attention of others. I would recommend Smiles For Life–Dr. Balderas and his staff for any and all dental procedures. It’s more than just a dental visit.”

Find Out If Implant-Retained Dentures Are Right for You

Partial Dentures

partial denture can replace multiple missing teeth in your upper or lower arch without the need for surgery. Drs. Geovanny Balderas and Dan Whiting at Smiles for Life Dental Care offer high-quality restorations that complete your smile and balance your bite. Our Bridgewater and Staunton, VA, patients can also take advantage of one of our payment plan options, such as Compassionate Finance or CareCredit™, to afford out-of-pocket costs.

Partial dentures are designed to fill in the gaps in your smile while comfortably fitting around your teeth.

Understanding Partial Dentures

Patients who have lost multiple teeth due to trauma, decay, or disease will need a dental restoration to fill the gaps in their smile. A popular, affordable option is a traditional partial denture. Made of acrylic, these removable restorations are secured in place with metal clasps attached to adjacent teeth. In certain cases, this appliance may also be attached to dental implants.

If you do not opt for dental implants, the teeth adjacent to the gap will help to anchor the partial denture. As such, any decay or defects affecting these teeth will need to first be addressed with appropriate treatment.

Advantages of Partial Dentures

As a restoration designed to replace multiple teeth, traditional partial dentures confer a number of notable benefits, such as:

  • Improved cost-effectiveness over other multiple tooth-replacement solutions
  • Nonsurgical approach
  • Preventing movement of natural teeth
  • Balancing out your bite across all teeth in your arch
  • Giving you confidence in the appearance of your smile
  • Helping you to speak naturally and eat with greater comfort
  • Maintaining facial structure
  • Preventing further tooth loss
  • Guarding against potential jaw issues such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder

Candidacy for Partial Dentures

Most patients missing multiple teeth on their upper or lower dental arch can qualify for a partial denture. Your doctor will review your oral and medical health in order to determine the most conservative method of treatment. In some cases, they may recommend other treatments before a denture.

You and your dentist can create a treatment plan that takes into account your oral health, budget, and lifestyle.

Patients with one missing tooth, for example, are generally better suited to a traditional bridge or implant-supported dental crown. Some patients may need badly damaged teeth removed while others may have teeth salvaged with another restorative treatment, such as a dental filling. Together, you and your dentist can create a treatment plan that takes into account your oral health, budget, and lifestyle.

Creating Your Partial Denture

After you have received any necessary preparatory treatments, your doctor can take detailed images of your teeth and gums. Using this information, the lab will fabricate your customized device, a process which usually takes a few weeks. When the prosthetic is ready, you can return to have the partial denture placed. At this time, your dentist will ensure that the device fits in aesthetically with your natural smile and complements your bite patterns to avoid jaw pain and other oral health concerns.

"From beginning to the end of my visits, all levels of the staff are professional and superb. Dr. Balderas is excellent. He listens to the customer.
